"The course was so helpful for me and my son. The thing I
found most useful was learning how to read stories aloud
to my children-how to make them more interesting and
fun. It has made such a difference to how we share books
at home and the children really love it now!"
PARENT
Annette and Liz continue to work with CLPE to design and run a variety of
long and short courses and conferences for parents and families.
They also run training courses for those working with parents and families
in and outside school settings.

We are frequently asked to lead sessions for parents. These can
address all aspects of supporting children's language and literacy
development. They range from one-off sessions on a school based
initiative such as, 'developing home school reading routines', to working
with new arrival families and accredited courses for parents to
develop their own literacy skills. Our courses are designed to build
on parents' own literacy skills and their confidence to effectively
interact and work with their children in school and at home.
Where possible we run courses for families in school which include
sessions where parents and children can relax and enjoy working together.
These sessions promote a shared understanding of literacy learning
between the parent, the child and the school.
"I've got to know more about my son's actions and attitudes
in school. I think I now have a greater understanding of
what he can do and how I can help him."
PARENT
We have designed courses which combine tuition with a comprehensive
range of practical and interactive sessions that encourage parents to
become actively involved in their child's learning. They include for example:
- the value of talk
- the importance of rhyme, rhythm and song
